I had the enormous honor of being selected for the Robertazzi Panel to open the PostGraduate Assembly in Anesthesiology, hosted by the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists. This panel consisted of true stars – Drs. David Birnbach, Karen Domino, and Avery Tung – all invited by the moderator, the famous Dr. Mark Warner. We each spoke on some aspect according to the panel theme: “To Do No Harm – What We Must Do Better.”

David spoke about miscommunication, Karen presented data from closed lawsuit cases (“closed claims”), and Avery spoke about preferences and other aspects that influence guideline noncompliance. I spoke about decision making strategies and biases that may result in cognitive error. One attendee told me this was the best panel in the history of the PGA – what a compliment! I was delighted to be part of it.

As an added bonus, my husband and I enjoyed a date in the city, and I reconnected with a long time friend. It was exhilarating to be in Times Square around the holidays; New York has amazing energy. Thank you, PGA!
