Not many places have as much tradition and history as Yale University. It was a true honor to be invited to visit their Department of Anesthesiology as a Visiting Professor, and give Grand Rounds. I spoke about cognitive errors in anesthesiology, and how cognitive processes like heuristic decision making, loss aversion, outcome bias, and memory shifting impact our choices and behaviors.
If you ever have the opportunity to visit, a “must-see” is the Cushing Center, a museum celebrating Harvey Cushing (the father of neurosurgery). The center houses over 2000 preserved specimens, many of them whole brains, documenting the history of neurological medicine from the beginning.
